In recent developments within the political landscape of Ifelodun LGA Kwara State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has witnessed a blatant disregard for due process and democratic principles in illegal appointment of Mr Lukman Abubakar as the chairman of APC in Ifelodun LGA by the State Chairman Mr. Sunday Fagbemi, along with the state secretary, Alhaji Mustapha Ishowo, overlooking the constitution of the party.
This flagrant act of disregarding the established party constitution and undermining the will of the party members and all other local government executives is not only unacceptable but also deeply troubling.
The APC, as a political entity founded on the principles of democracy, fairness, and transparency, should uphold the highest standards of integrity in its internal affairs.
The election of party officials should be conducted through a democratic and transparent process, which is known as congress where all eligible contenders are given equal opportunity to vie for leadership positions. In the case of Ifelodun LGA, where the Chairman resigns or withdraws from his position, the vice chairman by constitution is the next to be sworn in. By circumventing this process and imposing Mr. Lukman Abubakar as party chairman, the integrity of the APC State Chairman in Kwara State has been called into question.
Prince Rasaq Olatayo Owolabi is the rightful occupant of the seat of APC chairman in Ifelodun LGA. denying him the opportunity to lead the party undermines the trust and confidence of party members in the leadership of the APC.
Furthermore, the actions of Mr. Sunday Fagbemi, Hon Jide Ashinibare and Alhaji Mustapha Ishowo set a dangerous precedent for the future of democracy within the APC. If such blatant disregard for due process and internal party democracy is allowed to go unchecked, it could erode the credibility of the party and alienate its supporters.
As party stakeholders and members of the local government executives of the party, we strongly condemn the illegal appointment of Mr. Lukman Abubakar as APC party chairman in Ifelodun LGA. We call on our dear Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazak and other leaders of APC at the national level to intervene in this matter and ensure that justice prevails. The rightful person, Prince Rasaq Olatayo Owolabi, should be duly recognized as the legitimate party chairman in accordance with democratic principles and party guidelines and constitution.
It is imperative that the APC leadership in Kwara State upholds the values of democracy, transparency, and fairness in all its actions. Anything short of this undermines the integrity of the party.
It should be noted that the state excos and Kwara south senatorial executives of APC have distanced themselves from this heinous act of Prince Sunday Fagbemi and Hon Jide Ashonibare TIC chairman Ifelodun LGA.
