The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has issued a caution to fuel marketers in the state, advising them against hoarding fuel and creating artificial scarcity. The Governor expressed his concern over reports of sudden fuel scarcity in various parts of the state and emphasized that such actions are unnecessary and impose undue hardship on the citizens.
The government stated that fuel marketers should immediately sell fuel to the public at the normal pricing system, as they had already purchased the fuel at subsidized rates. The Governor stressed that creating artificial scarcity and hoarding fuel bought at subsidized prices is a form of economic sabotage and misrepresentation of the statement made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding fuel subsidy.
To enforce compliance, the Governor announced the formation of a task force led by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi. This task force will be responsible for ensuring that fuel marketers do not cause unnecessary hardship to the citizens of Kwara State. The statement further warned that any filling station found to be hoarding fuel would face penalties, including the revocation of their Certificate of Occupancy (CofO).
The government’s primary objective is to prevent fuel scarcity and alleviate any hardships faced by the citizens. By taking these measures, they aim to ensure that fuel is readily available at fair prices and discourage any actions that may disrupt the supply and create panic among the public.
