The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ilorin, Kwara State, Corp Commander Stephen E. Dawulung, recently received a visit from the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Orire.
In his address, Corp Commander Dawulung expressed his appreciation for the visit and pledged the FRSC’s continued collaboration with the state government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. He commended the government’s efforts in creating a peaceful environment, highlighting its importance for effective road safety initiatives.
Corp Commander Dawulung also commended the concept of the Ilorin Smart City project, but advised that such modern cities should prioritize the development of multimodal transport systems. He emphasized the benefits of such systems, including improved safety, reduced traffic congestion, and time savings for commuters.
The FRSC boss pointed out the critical role that roads play in Kwara State’s transportation network, noting that approximately 80% of all transportation needs are met through road travel. He expressed particular concern about the high rate of fatalities along the Ilorin-Jebba road.
Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju Orire, in turn, reiterated the governor’s commitment to ensuring a safe motoring environment in the state. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the FRSC and expressed the government’s willingness to seek advice from the Corps whenever necessary.
Hon. Orire also highlighted the administration’s interest in leveraging the FRSC’s expertise in driver education and public awareness campaigns.
