The raw materials warehouse of Sumal Foods Limited, located at Oluyole Industrial Estate, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital was gutted by fire on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the fire outbreak, which started in the early hours of Wednesday, began from the bread section of the Sumal warehouse.
However, the actual cause of the outbreak could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Security agents were on the ground to ensure safety in the area as firefighters tried to put out the inferno.
The General Manager, Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident to The PUNCH during a telephone conversation with our correspondent.
“Yes, we are aware of the fire incident which started around 3 am. Our officers are there and have successfully controlled the fire incident. The Federal Fire Service is also there and some other agencies. Our men are still there so I cannot give you detailed information now.”
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, said “The Incident was reported around the early hours of today. Thankfully no fatalities were recorded. Discreet investigations have also commenced ascertaining the possible cause of the incident. Updates would be provided accordingly.”
