Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday held a marathon meeting with Minister of Works Babatunde Fashola on the bad state of some federal government roads in the state.
In a press release made available to the media by SA New Media to the Gov, Mr. Fafoluyi Olayinka.
The Governor, who had Works Commissioner Rotimi Iliasu with him at the meeting, thanked the federal government for its projects in the state and drew attention to the deplorable condition of some of the Federal roads in Kwara.
He appealed to the Minister for the roads to be fixed to ease the burden of the people of the state.
Some of the roads discussed include the Kishi-Kaiama; the dualization of the Eiyenkorin Jebba road, with emphasis on the bad section before Oko-Olowo, Ilorin Kabba Road, and others.
The Minister said the requests of the Governor would be looked into, especially as the federal government puts finishing touches on the 2022 budget.
Recall, JUST EVENT ONLINE correspondent, Rukayat Shittu, yesterday visited the bad portions of the Ilorin – Jebba Highway for a comprehensive report. She observed that potholes and craters littered several portions of the expressway.
The road starts from somewhere 6km behind within Ilorin township and ends after Jebba bridge.
Truck drivers and motorcyclists were seen making effort to avoid potholes and slowing down to navigate some spots they could not escape.
The 93.6km long road connects Oyo, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, and Lagos states, leading to the northern, western regions of Nigeria.
Motorists plying the road complained about the regular damage done to their vehicles by the worn-out road.
The condition of the road has continued to be a source of anxiety to the people of the state as many truck drivers are using alternative routes like Ita-Amo, Oloje, Ogidi, and Geri-Alimi.
