The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, has announced plans to allocate budgetary resources aimed at fostering green technologies within the transportation sector.
Alkali made this disclosure during the commencement of the executive session of the 18th National Council on Transportation Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, recently.
He said the ministry was determined to address pressing energy challenges and promote sustainable development in the country.
Alkali emphasised the importance of the shift towards sustainability, stating that “the future of our nation depends upon responsible stewardship of our environment”.
By investing in renewable energies and innovative technologies, Nigeria aims to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute meaningfully to international efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
As part of the plan, the ministry would work closely with industry stakeholders to develop targeted policies and programmes designed to support the deployment of cleaner modes of transport, such as electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells, and biofuels.
The minister expressed confidence that those measures would help position Nigeria as a leader in eco-friendly transportation practices, while also stimulating economic growth through increased private sector engagements.
