The Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan in collaboration with Kwara State Government through the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Non-Governmental Affairs to Kwara Governor, headed by Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas has on Tuesday, trained 120 farmers in the 16 local government areas of the state on Agroforestry, Agrisilvicuture, Rabbitry production, Honey Production and Mushroom production
While speaking with Just Event Online at the end of the two-day training, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Abdullateef Alakawa Gidado said, the program seeks to train the people of Kwara in a way to make sure they contribute to the proper forestry development.
As a farmer myself and as Commissioner for Agriculture you will discover that agric can not be properly done in an environment that is not friendly and you would also have noticed the degradation in our environment, this program by FIRN is very timely, he said.
“As a government, we came here to identify with them and to show we are ready to partner with them, and also to encourage young people to be part of the program for us to have a friendly environment and more people in the agriculture sector”.
Speaking further, Alakawa advised the participants to take the training beyond the training hall and added that it is the only way the essence of the training will not be defeated.
Adejare Adesope from the Department of Forest economics and extension service from the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria commended Kwara State Government for their joint efforts. He also appreciated the participants for their cooperation throughout the training
He applauded the State Government for providing startup capital for farmers.
While responding, the participants in their various submissions vowed to make use of the knowledge acquired judiciously as they commended the state government for broadening their knowledge through the training.
