The Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, has unveiled a “gender mainstreaming policy outlining a home-grown comprehensive framework for the integration of gender perspectives and inclusiveness in the agency’s policies.”
Bichi, according to a statement on Thursday by the spokesperson for the service, Peter Afunanya, said the policy would “promote gender equality” and create an environment devoid of “discrimination and bias in the service.”
The statement read in part, “This is a key component of the DSS commitment to promoting gender equality in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the National Gender Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“The DG stated that he recognised that gender mainstreaming is essential to achieving this goal and was proud to launch this policy as a demonstration of the service commitment to this cause.”
