Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Kwara State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Garba Attahiru Madami has charged Kwara youths not to allow themselves used by self interests of politicians to destroy electioneering properties
In an exclusive interview with Just Event Online TV on Monday at the INEC head office, Ilorin, Mallam Attahiru charged the Traditional Rulers and all Kwarans to protect the harmony the state has always known for
Responding to questions on recent attacks to INEC offices by hoodlums in some states, he said the Commission has taken a proactive measures in Kwara by collaborating with Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security led by the State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama in protecting both sensitive, non sensitive materials and its personnels
“Don’t allow politicians to use you to destroy electioneering properties. Let us continue to protect INEC facilities”.
“It is the duties of the Traditional Rulers and every Kwarans to protect what we have and live in harmony that Kwara is always known for”.
Speaking on the collection of the PVCs that started on Monday 12, December 2022 across all Local Govts of the federation, he said the collection will end on 5th of Jan 2023.
“On the 6th of Jan to 15th, INEC will move the registration to areas/ward. The PVCs will be taken back to the LGs for collection From 16th to 23rd”.
“Collecting PVC on behalf of others ( proxy) is a criminal offence based on electoral law therefore, it cannot be collected for others”.
“If you did not verified electronically using the BVAS, and you vote, it will be an over voting and the entire polling unit will be cancelled as a result of over voting”.
He therefore appealed to political party’s agents to be vigilant not to allow people do over voting, saying the votes in such polling unit will be cancelled.
In the same vein, The Electoral Officer for Ilorin West LG, Adejumo Peter Olusegun, said there has been a massive turnout of registrers who have come to collect their PVCs. Added that the office is open for collection from Monday to Sunday.
The registrers in their submissions commended INEC as they call for free and fair elections
