Deploy proper usage of Fact-Checking for accurate reporting, Journalists urged

Journalists has been charged to make use of various fact checking tools in ensuring accuracy in their reportage.

Mrs Zainab Sanni from News Verifier Africa gave the charge on Wednesday at a one-day roundtable discussion organized by Albarika 89.9 FM with the support of Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism and funded by MacArthur Foundation.

Delivering a virtual lecture on the topic; Fact-Checking as a tool for investigative reporting, Zainab emphasized the importance and advantages of the usage of fact checking in order to avoid information disorder, such as misinformation, disinformation and as well as mal-information.

She listed some important Fact-Checking tools that will help investigative Journalists during the course of discharging their duties.

She therefore advised Journalists to be skeptical and create an habit of Fact-Checking for more credibility.

Giving lecture on “Decentralization and local governance”, second guest lecturer and general manager, Herald Newspaper, Mr. Yomi Adeboye advised Journalists to take cognizance of local governance which is primarily aim at bringing development to the grassroots.

He urged Journalists to always question the activities of the local government leaders and must hold them accountable for any inefficiency for the sake of the people.
