The Delta State Government has inaugurated a 45-man Livestock Management Operatives team to enforce the state’s anti-open grazing law.
The team was inaugurated at a ceremony at the state headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Asaba.
The Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Godfrey Enita, who is also the Chairman, Delta State Livestock Management Committee, who inaugurated the team, said the men had gone through basic courses for operatives, adding that they would be directly supervised by their respective local government area special task force.
The commissioner recalled that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had on December 14, 2021 inaugurated the State Livestock Management Committee, explaining that the committee had, before now, sensitised all critical stakeholders, including the Arewa community, Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Cattle Dealers and the resident Fulani herders, among others, to the law.
