The Customs Area Comptroller, Kwara Command, on Thursday empowered members of the Customs Officers Wives Association, (COWA) with sewing machines, baking ovens, and makeup kits.
The Command also donated relief materials worth millions of naira to Kwara State Ministry of Social Development.
The items included Indomie noodles, spaghetti, sugar, toilet paper, and milk.
The Command Comptroller, FM Ojiefu while speaking in a press conference said the donation aimed to provide relief and support to vulnerable individuals in the state.
And 67 wives and widows of Customs officers presented with empowerment items
Showcasing their achievements, Ojiefu announced that it collected and remitted N10.027 billion between January and May 2024.
He also reported 21 seizures of prohibited items, including foreign rice, used vehicles, and petroleum products.
The empowerment program aims to equip women with skills and confidence to reach their full potential.
The duo of Commissioner for Social Development, and Commissioner for Women Affairs appreciated the Customs for their support and empowerment of women.
They urged the beneficiaries to utilize the empowerment gadgets judiciously.
COWA PRO, Mr. Florence Anyameluhor who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries commended the gesture.
The event was attended by the officials of Kwara State Ministry of Social Development, management and sectional/unit heads of the Command, representatives of ITC and Sanica Beverages, among others.
