Communique Issued at the First Congress of Kwara State SWAN in 2024


The Kwara State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) held its inaugural congress for the year 2024 at the State Stadium Complex in Ilorin. The congress, which took place on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024, addressed key issues in the sports writing community and outlined the association’s resolutions. The communique drafting committee comprised Jimoh Bashir, Nicholas Uwerunonye, and Olayinka Alaya.

Highlights of the Communique:

The congress applauded the state government for its commendable efforts in sports development, particularly the ongoing renovation projects. Special mention was made of the recent approval for the renovation and upgrade of the Indoor Sports Hall at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Kwara SWAN advocated for a peaceful resolution of the national body’s crisis, urging adherence to the Statutes of the sports writing body. The State Exco received a charge to fortify the local chapter and enhance its effectiveness.

Emphasizing the importance of adherence to its Statutes, Kwara SWAN called for careful consideration of entry requirements for new members. Members who are yet to complete their registration for the current year were urged to fulfill this obligation promptly.

The association committed to sustaining efforts in updating the knowledge of its members through seminars and workshops. Collaboration and partnerships were sought to achieve this educational goal in sports reportage.

Kwara SWAN announced plans to organize the 2024 SWAN Media Games, aiming to encourage active sports participation among its members beyond reporting.

The congress concluded with a commitment to implementing the resolutions for the progress and growth of sports writing in Kwara State.
