Cancer Diagnosis Is Not a Death Sentence, Early Detection Is Key – Former Kwara First Lady, Omolewa Ahmed
Former First Lady of Kwara State, Deaconess Omolewa Yetunde Ahmed, has emphasized that a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence, stressing the importance of early detection as a crucial step in effective treatment. She made this statement during a cancer awareness road walk held in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
Leading the walk through major streets in Ilorin on Saturday, Omolewa Ahmed reaffirmed her commitment to cancer eradication in Nigeria. She expressed hope that no one, male or female, would have to suffer from the disease, underscoring the need for increased awareness about early detection.
“This campaign is about educating our people on how early detection of cancer signs can save lives. The earlier treatment starts, the better the chances of survival,” Ahmed said during the event.
Ahmed’s passion for the campaign stems from personal experience, having lost a loved one to cancer. She has since remained a strong advocate for cancer awareness and education, even facilitating the production of a movie titled *”Diamond in the Sky”*, aimed at further sensitizing Nigerians on the dangers of the disease.
Nollywood actress Omowumi Dada, one of the lead actors in “Diamond in the Sky,” highlighted the movie’s role in spreading awareness about cancer through the entertainment industry. She called for increased collaboration between healthcare professionals and Nollywood to reach a wider audience and educate people about the deadly disease.
“We hope this movie serves as a wake-up call, reminding Nigerians about the importance of early detection and the fight against cancer,” Dada remarked.
The event is part of ongoing efforts to promote cancer prevention and ensure that people understand that early detection offers a fighting chance against the disease.
