Buhari: policy consistency puts economy on rebound

Policy consistency is responsible for the rebound of the economy, President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday.

According to him, innovation and job creation are other factors that brought about the five per cent growth in Q2 as computed by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Other contributors, the President said, are improvements in agriculture, manufacturing, power and telecommunications, as well as an enhanced transportation sector.

The President spoke at the launch of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) in Abuja. It is a post-National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme designed to consolidate the economic success.

Under the programme “20,000 recent graduates” would be provided with employment opportunities annually.

Minister of Finance and Budget Mrs. Zainab Ahmed on Monday announced that the country’s economy would soon bounce back to pre-COVID-19 era as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) improved by 5.01 per cent. Mrs Ahmed expressed joy that the non-oil sector accounted for the leap. Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina quoted President Buhari as expressing happiness that some of his policies to contain the effects of COVID-19 on the economy were yielding positive results.
