The United States Envoy to Nigeria, Mr. Massad Boulos, has disclosed that terror groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have killed more Muslims than Christians in Nigeria.
Boulos made this known while responding to concerns over recent claims of religious persecution in the country, describing such narratives as “misleading” and “not reflective of the U.S. government’s position.”
According to him, terrorism in Nigeria transcends religion or ethnicity, as victims cut across all faiths and communities.
> “Those who know the terrain well understand that terrorism has no color, no religion, and no tribe. People of all religions and tribes are dying as a result of terrorist acts,” he said.
> “We even know that Boko Haram and ISIS are killing more Muslims than Christians.”
The U.S. envoy lamented the continued loss of innocent lives, stressing that *“every loss of life is one too many.”* He called for stronger collective efforts among governments, security agencies, and communities to end the violence.
Boulos also commended the Nigerian government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intensifying the fight against insecurity, noting that increased deployments and targeted operations in affected regions have begun to yield positive results.
Reaffirming the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in its quest for peace and stability, Boulos emphasized that the country remains a model of religious coexistence.
> “Nigeria has long been a melting pot where Christians and Muslims have lived together peacefully for centuries. We believe this harmony can and must be sustained,” he added.
