Badminton Federation gets caretaker committee as court case halts election

A caretaker committee headed by former President, Francis Obi, was sworn in on Monday to administer the affairs of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria after a court case by one Kenneth Azuine on the eve of the election.

Azuine had on the eve of the election, got an interim court injunction stopping the electoral processes and composition of the BFN board.

With badminton in the country grounded to a halt, the Federal Ministry of Sports opted to set up a caretaker committee with the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar standing in for the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, to swear in the 13-man caretaker committee.

Other members of the committee are Maina Mohammed, Solaja Obiageli, Yusuf Bello, Shehu Sulyman Warah, Tangbe Felix Awala, Tunde Kazeem, George Shitta, Etuku Tenimu, Esther Gidado, Malik Anas, Amb Yahaya Yusuf and Grace Gabriel.

The chairman of the committee, Orbih said that the setting up of the committee was a good development as it would attempt to redeem the lost ground occasioned by the lingering crises.

He stated that he would abide by the counsel offered by Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary at the ministry that he should reach out to all stakeholders.

“I can assure stakeholders that the committee will do its best to ensure that badminton continue to grow in the country,” he added.
