Telecom Subscribers, under the aegis of the Association of Telephone, CableTv and Internet Subscribers of Nigeria (ATCIS) Telephone Subscribers at the weekend cried out over declining quality of service (QoS) by their service providers, ATCIS as call on attention of Executive Vice-Chairman, EVC of NCC, Dr Aminu Maina to work it out.
“It is worrisome and the NCC is pretending that all is well. This low service quality is coming at a time when the MNOs are asking for a hike in tariff when ATCIS the only leading telecom subscriber advocacy with over 223 million membership across 36 states within six geo political zones in Nigeria are not carried along.a
What kindly of politics NCC is playing? NCC should remember ATCIS-Nigeria had written NCC served letters in which NCC are in support that led to publication “Consumers have say in proposed tariff hike -NCC” dated July 12, 2022 and July 15, 2022. “The Telcos operators should tell Telecom Subscribers if they have any challenges.”
ATCIS-Nigeria, National President, Hon Sina Bilesanmi, accused the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) of pretending that everything was fine while subscribers groaned, called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to stop playing the ostrich and compel Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), also known as telcos, the service rendered by the MNOs had become so bad that subscribers now lament openly, to improve their service.
But the MNOs, who incidentally are pushing for tariff hike, said no complaint of poor service delivery had been escalated to them.
He said that ATCIS-Nigeria members have not only complained about drop calls and inability to originate calls, but they are also unable to access their airtime balance after recharging.
Hon ‘Sina Bilesanmi argued that now that service quality has nosedived, there was no ground for telcos to justify any demand for a tariff increase.
Hon Bilesanmi thanked members for their corporations and urged subscribers to remain focused & united, emphasizing that they hold significant market power. He reiterated ATCIS’s commitment to fighting for subscriber rights and ensuring good quality service.
ATCIS has a history of advocating for citizens’ rights, spending over N834 million on this cause. The organization has secured employment opportunities for its members, featured in over 1006 newspaper publications & numerous media outlets tagged “Know Your Right as Telecom Subscribers”and achieved 347 successful programs and reforms. ATCIS remains dedicated to protecting the rights of telephone, cable TV, and internet subscribers across Nigeria.
