The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, says the military will in a few weeks launch an aggressive operation against recalcitrant bandits in the North-West.
Lagbaja said this on Monday night during a visit to the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal.
The governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Idris, said in a statement on Tuesday that his principal and the COAS had a closed-door meeting during which key important security issues were discussed.
“There will be an aggressive military operation in the state in a few weeks,” the statement quoted Lagbaja to have said.
According to the statement, the COAS told the governor that he was on a tour of the North-West.
“The governor and the Chief of Army Staff brainstormed on strategies that would enhance military operations to restore absolute peace in the state.
“The visit by the army chief has indicated a sign of commitment to addressing the lingering insecurity. It will also boost the morale of the soldiers at the war front,” the statement said
