The All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Network has strongly condemned the recent call by Charles Ude for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, GCON, over what it describes as false and unsubstantiated allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Akpoti Natasha.
In a statement signed by Otuekong Iniobong John, Director General of the APC Media Network and obtained by Just Event Online TV on Monday, the group described Ude’s demands as a politically motivated smear campaign designed to undermine Senator Akpabio’s leadership.
The APC Media Network dismissed Senator Akpoti Natasha’s claims, labeling them a calculated attempt to manipulate public sentiment rather than a genuine pursuit of justice. The statement noted that the alleged incident supposedly occurred over a year ago, yet she failed to report it until now—raising serious doubts about the credibility of her accusations.
“This ill-conceived political strategy is devoid of credibility and is simply aimed at framing herself as a victim of gender intimidation, especially at a time when she is under scrutiny for breaches of the Senate’s Standing Orders,” the statement read.
Addressing Ude’s reference to the 2005 case of former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, the APC Media Network argued that Wabara faced credible allegations of bribery from ministers, while Akpabio’s situation involves mere hearsay without evidence. The group accused Ude of deliberate misinformation and political mischief.
The statement further alleged that Senator Akpoti Natasha has a history of making similar accusations against prominent figures, citing her past confrontations with Reno Omokri, Dino Melaye, and former Governor Yahaya Bello. It questioned whether this latest claim against Akpabio was yet another tactic to gain political sympathy.
“Senator Akpoti Natasha would do well to respect Senate rules and procedures, rather than resorting to cheap distractions. If she cannot abide by the Standing Orders, the honorable thing to do would be to resign,” the group added.
The APC Media Network reaffirmed its full support for Senator Akpabio, stressing that the Senate President remains focused on effective governance and legislative progress despite attempts to derail his leadership.
It called on the public to reject political theatrics and stand for truth and accountability, urging Senator Akpoti Natasha to address her ethical violations rather than resorting to what it described as “desperate and misleading accusations.”
