Algeria, Botswana, Egypt and the joint bid of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are just the six countries that have indicated interest to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declared.
The six countries submitted their bids before the expiry of the deadline set by CAF, and the Africa’s soccer ruling body has recorded four bids from the stated countries.
Algeria hosted and won the AFCON in 1990 and are seeking to welcome the rest of Africa again while Egypt have hosted the competition four times in 1974, 1986, 2006 and 2019. It will be the fifth time if they are granted the hosting rights.
Botswana and the joint bid of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have never hosted the competition before.
CAF has given the bidding teams until May 23rd to submit their final bid which must including bidding and hosting documents (hosting agreement, host cities agreement, government guarantees, etc.), which should be duly signed.
While CAF will embark on inspection visits to the bidding nations between June 1st and July 15th before the CAF Executive Committee will make a decision at a date to be later communicated.
CAF is yet to also communicate the host of the 2025 edition.
