Ajia stresses need for new security architecture to strengthen internal security

 

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency of Kwara State in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, has suggested focus on the need for new security architecture in the country to strengthen internal security.

Speaking after receiving an Award of Excellence from the Nigeria Police force for his selfless service and outstanding performance in the force, Alhaji Ajia said that insecurity had persisted in the country because the nation’s internal security was neglected.

The PDP House of Representatives candidate also said that finances expended so far on the nation’s defence had yielded no positive results. He therefore urge for strategic funding and more focus on Internal security stakeholders which the Police is the leading agency .

Alhaji Ajia was a celebrated Superintendent of police before he voluntarily resigned and ventured into private business , politics and philanthropic activities.

“One of the reasons we are facing serious insecurity is because we have been spending so much on defence without positive results. Our major issue is internal security. But we’ve neglected this. That is why we can’t go anywhere. I will make sure that internal security is given priority when I get to the green chamber. I promise you that I will make sure the set goal is achieved by the grace of God”, he said.

Alhaji Ajia, who appreciated the police force for the recognition, said that, “if he wins by the grace of God; he will sponsor a bill on National Security Architecture.”

The retired security chief was honoured on Saturday night for his philanthropic gesture being rendered to the force through his foundation; Mohammed Ajia Ibrahim (MAI) Foundation, even after he left the service.

A statement released by Ajia Media Team noted that he received the award at the event marking 20 years anniversary of Cadet Inspector course 36/2002 of Police Academy Wudil Kano held at Chida Hotel, Abuja.

The spokesman of the course CSP Bello Yakubu explained that Ibrahim Ajia has been supporting the force and the men at the front line .he has single-handedly built and equipped a modern transit camp, visited police family to donate food items and relief materials during Covid 19 lockdown even as he supported people with various health challenges as well as the needy.

Alhaji Ajia , however, encouraged men and officers of the Police to continue to uphold 3Cs which are; to be of good character, demonstrate uncommon Courage and to always show competence with Excellence.

The House of Representatives candidate said, “this is a surprise to me and I will not take it for granted. I want to encourage you to always vent for excellent performance. I know it is not easy to be a police officer in Nigeria, and this is one of the reasons why some of us had to leave the terrain so that we can join the other side and help you press for those things you need to do your work effectively.

“I am promising you that further thing I will strive to achieve at the National Assembly is to present a bill for the Security Architecture of Nigeria where the role of internal security will be well defined and  strengthened
