The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is still hoping that the provisional suspension of reigning world 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, would be lifted on time for her to make the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The federation, Monday, included her name, and that of U.S.-based sprinter, Godson Brume, on the list of athletes that will fly the nation’s flag in Budapest.
The competition will run from August 19 to 27. The AFN had earlier planned to unveil Team Nigeria’s list to Budapest at the weekend, but shelved the plan hoping for ‘good news’ to come from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
Even when nothing has been heard from AIU concerning Amusan’s clearance yesterday, the AFN decided to include her name because “we have to submit the list to Budapest latest by 12 midnight. We have included Tobi’s name until AIU decides on her fate,” AFN Technical Director, Samuel Onikeku said.
