Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization, and Nutrition (ACOMIN) held its monthly coordination meeting earlier today in Kwara State, emphasizing the vital role of community-based organisation in strengthening healthcare services.
In his address, ACOMIN Coordinator Mr. Femi Olatunbosun commended Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) for their dedication to improving healthcare services in their respective communities. He stressed the importance of their work, highlighting that their efforts have made significant contributions to enhancing healthcare accessibility, promoting disease prevention, and ensuring better living conditions for residents.
The Coordinator further appealed to the CBOs not to grow weary in their service to humanity, acknowledging that while the work may be challenging, the impact is undeniable. He encouraged them to remain steadfast, emphasizing that their persistence is essential in addressing critical health issues, particularly in grassroot areas.
Mr. Olatunbosun reiterated that while significant progress has been made, there is still much work to be done. He called on all partners, including government agencies, local leaders, and donor organizations, to continue supporting grassroots initiatives that drive positive change in the healthcare sector.
The meeting also highlighted recent success stories that underscore the positive outcomes of community-based organisations’ involvement in healthcare development.
To improve safety and security at the Alanamu Basic Health Centre BHC Ilorin West LGA, an additional solar-powered security light was installed by the community. This is expected to enhance the facility’s security, ensuring that healthcare workers and patients can access services safely, especially during late hours. The provision of solar-powered light also addresses the challenge of electricity supply.
In a remarkable display of commitment to sustaining healthcare services, the community stepped in to pay an outstanding electricity bill for the Ekan PHC in Oke-Ero LGA. This intervention ensured that the facility continued to operate without disruptions, allowing healthcare workers to provide essential services without the burden of power outages.
