In a remarkable display of dedication to student unionism, Hamzat AbdulRazaq was conferred with an Award of Excellence for his unwavering commitment to the cause at the National Open University Nigeria.
The prestigious award was presented to him on Saturday, recognizing his remarkable contributions within the National Open University’s student community.
The Congress of National Open University of Nigeria Students (CONS) witnessed a significant transition as Shakiru Olatunde was elected as the new National President during the 5th National Congress and Election of the Congress of National Open University of Nigeria Students.
In her address the outgoing president of CONS, Comrade Rukayat Abolore Busari expressed her profound and adoration, to the Almighty God whose gracefulness have often been in quantum dimension. With him, all impossibilities are always possible.
Today, I’m privileged, favoured and feel highly elated but humble to address the Congress of NOUN Students and the invited great men and women of reputable credentials, a historic segment, to mark the end of my uproarious tenure as the 3rd National President of Congress of National Open University of Nigeria Students.
Speaking further, she said presentation of awards to ex students of the institution is vital because they upturn the status quo for the protection of student’s interest and welfare, physically, academically and professionally by speaking with one voice under one umbrella void of ethnicity, religion, and political affiliation, the struggle was led by Hamzat AbdulRazaq
These developments not only celebrate individual achievements but also highlight the collective drive towards enhancing the quality of education and student welfare within the open and distance learning framework.
She advised the incoming national executive to be transparency, accountability and do not hold any grudges against each other
A highlight of the event was the insightful discourse on “The Impact of New Technologies on Open and Distance Learning Students,” delivered by the distinguished journalist, Mallam Abubakar Mustapha. This crucial topic shed light on the transformative role that modern technologies play in shaping the educational landscape for distance learning students.
In his inaugural speech, the newly elected national president of CONS, Comrade Shakiru Olatunde Kareem who is from Wuse 2 Study Centre Abuja, commended the electoral body for their effort to make the election free and fair, he appreciated the delegates across Nigeria for believing in his vision, he also commended his opponent Julius Oluwafemi Ojo
He promised to lead by example and move CONS to a greater height
