The 3rd batch of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) was inaugurated on Friday at the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority. The event was attended by ICPC Commissioner Mr. Ulu Okoro J, who highlighted the unit’s role in operating as an in-house check mechanism for all federal government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
According to Mr. Okoro, ACTU will conduct preliminary investigations, training, and enlightenment for staff, focusing on critical departments like finance, accounts, procurement, and audit. The unit aims to ensure MDAs follow procedures and processes, preventing temptations and corruption.
The ICPC commissioner noted that ACTU is an initiative of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and has been approved by the federal government since October 2021.
Dr. Adeniyi Saheed Aremu FNSE , MD of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, praised ACTU as an institution that has made a culture of fighting corruption. He emphasized that tackling corruption is crucial for the system to work perfectly, in line with the guiding principle of ICPC.
Mrs. Obajemu, the newly inaugurated chairperson of the ACTU LNRBDA Chapter, promised that the executives will work hard to achieve the unit’s mandate and appreciated the management for the opportunity to serve.
