In a bid to address the high unemployment rates in Kwara and Nigeria at large , the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Kwara State Axis today empowered business owners with huge cash , this was done during the 3rd edition of AGF AbdulRasaq Entrepreneurship Contest
The Grand Finale of the contest was held at Kwara state Arts and Culture Hall, Geri-Alimi Ilorin on Thursday.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq represented by Alh Salaudeen Sadudeen, emphasized the role of entrepreneurship in skill development. This, he noted, enhances employability and acts as a catalyst in reducing unemployment. The governor urged students to acquire valuable vocational skills, positioning themselves at the forefront of societal development.
In his words, the Chairman NANS Kwara Axis, Comr. Yusuf AbdulGafar stated that Entrepreneurship has emerged as a potential solution to address the high unemployment rates in the country, He stressed that unemployment not only leads to poverty and social unrest but also impedes economic growth and societal development.
Speaking on the theme, “Entrepreneurship a throughput to global objection” the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Hon. Abdulquwiy Olododo said Entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in reducing unemployment and driving economic growth by creating jobs, fostering innovation, diversifying the economy, increasing competition, empowering individuals, and enhancing skill development.
Hon. Olododo advised the unemployed to venture into entrepreneurship, providing steps such as market research, business plan development, seeking advice from experienced entrepreneurs, securing funding, and building a supportive team
Speaking to Just Event Online TV, SA on Students’ Affairs to the Executive Governor of Kwara state, Hon. Salami Wasiu Onidugbe explained that the students competed to demonstrate resilience and innovation in dealing with global challenges, and developing businesses that generate wealth.
After thorough assessment of contestants’ applications and careful consideration, a 300L Law student University of Ilorin, Mohammed Nimatallahi Bayero emerged as the winner of the contest with 75 points, while Dauda Abdulfattah who is also a student of University of Ilorin emerged the First runner up with 70 points and Olatunji Oluwaremilekun Esther a student of Kwara State College of Nursing Oke-Ode emerged the 2nd runner up with 67 points
Mohammed Nimatallahi Bayero commended Kwara NANS for the initiative and urged students to have vision, determination and work towards achieving positive results.
