The management of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) has said the hospital now enjoys minimum of 20 hours uninterrupted electricity in all its facilities. This was contained in a press release sighed by head of Corporate Affairs Unit (CAU) of the UITH, Mrs. E.O. Ajiboye
The UITH Management, disturbed by the incessant power outages to its facilities, had to connect the electricity supply of the hospital to a dedicated line from Ibadan with a viable step down in a sub power station. The development before coming to fruition, made the hospital to incur a huge sum of money on diesel and PMS
According to Ajiboye, “we appreciate the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor A.D. Yussuf, for this giant stride and his untiring efforts at making this development a reality. In addition, major electrical faults have been corrected just as faulty transformers have been fixed, restored and re -energized.”
These developments she added are turning points to various units/departments like the laboratories, theatres, and so on as the facilities now enjoy unhindered electricity supply, through the migration of the electricity supply of the hospital into Premium Feeder, it has solved an age long problem bedeviling the UITH as a tertiary health institution, even before the advent of his administration.
Because of the symbiotic relationships between the hospital & the University, the Management has also extended the dedicated power supply to the old College of Health Sciences (COHS) building within its premises (i.e., hostels & lecture halls).
In a related development and towards averting outbreak of fire disaster in any part of the hospital, the Management has replaced obsolete fire extinguishers with new ones. This is another landmark achievement of our visionary CMD and members of his Management team.
The development also include the following:-
➢ FREE FLOW OF TAP WATER
The stable electricity supply has boosted the supply of water, through over 20 boreholes into all vital areas of the hospital. However, the Management is working towards reaching an agreement with the state government to facilitate Municipal Water Supply into the health facility.
➢ VIRILE OXYGEN PLANTS PUT IN PLACE
The hospital has in existence a dedicated Oxygen Plant, and presently enjoys the services of a newly donated oxygen plant to the hospital by the Federal Ministry of Health. The two plants have the capacities to churn out the needed units of oxygen for all her patients as the hospital produces its oxygen internally now, unhindered with the 20 hours uninterrupted power supply.
➢ 16 FUNCTIONAL OPERATIONAL THEATRES WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY
The hospital has concluded the major renovation works on its main theatre with state -of- the- art equipments. With the restoration of stable electricity supply; (eight main theatres and another satellites eight), totaling 16 now work simultaneously.
Other developments include:
➢ SECURITY BEEFED UP
To enhance adequate security of lives and property in the hospital, the Management has engaged more security officers to assist the existing ones on ground, to curb the issue of theft and staff harassment in the hospital.
These and many other positive interventions have been carried out within the spate of the last two months by the productive Management of the UITH under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) professor A.D. Yussuf.
➢ FACELIFT OF THE ENVIRONMENT
The entire environment of the UITH is receiving a facelift such as; landscaping, interlocking, repainting, and so on towards making the environment conducive and to be one of the very best in terms of aesthetics in Nigeria and beyond.
The Management, while eliciting more proactive responses and dedication to duties from all cadres of staff of the hospital, assured patients and their relatives of her commitment to the delivery of quality healthcare.
